THE BASICS
in this section, "design" refers to the designs i make, and "art" refers to the picture containing the design.

RUNDOWN:
my designs are under a CC BY-NC 4.0 license. this means anyone and everyone can use and alter them for any non-commercial reason, as long as credit is given. here is more information from the creative commons website.
*do note that i cannot legally license fandom designs :( feel free to use and alter them anyways!

my art is under a CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 license, which is virtually the same, but means that all derived artworks must also be put under the CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 license. you can use / edit the art however you want (yes, even for your own characters!), but any derivatives can be edited and shared by anyone else.
i consider the designs and the art separate entities - the art is an execution of skill, and the design is a collection of concepts & ideas.

WHAT YOU CAN DO:
- use the designs as your own characters
- edit or trace my artwork
- change / alter any part of the designs you want

WHAT YOU CANNOT DO:
- claim exclusive ownership over my designs, my art, or any adaptations of the two
- use my art in commissioned works (more can be found in the "commercial use" section)
- sell / trade my designs, heavily inspired designs, or any designs using my art as a base

THE SPECIFICS
in this section, "design" refers to the designs i make, and "artwork" refers to the picture containing the design.

SUBLICENSING:
feel free to sublicense adaptations of my works under CC BY, CC BY-SA, or CC BY-NC-SA licenses! i am perfectly happy with people doing so. this is the only way i permit commercial use of my designs and artwork.
note that this is a privilege and not a right, so if you're being a total dick about it (eg. you are working on behalf of a multi-million dollar corporation), i can and will revoke this privilege from you.
you can also license adaptations under CC BY-NC, i just thought it was a bit obvious and redundant to state

ADOPTABLES:
i don't really like adoptables. they're like NFTs without the whole blockchain shtick. that said, i notice they're a major part of the character creating community, so i'll have to address them at some point.
for obvious reasons, you are able to make adoptables inspired by my designs, since inspiration does not immediately make something derivative. however, i request that you don't rip them off more than you'd rip off anyone else's designs, as i am not a fan of the adoptables community.
for anyone who doesn't know how laws work: adoptables require the seller to transfer a certain set of rights to the buyer. you can't exactly sell rights that i still hold. therefore, get fucked.

REFERENCES:
many of my designs are inspired by other art pieces. the level of referencing varies from design to design - i can guarantee you that there is at least one ripoff of someone else's character that has slipped through. i would say sorry, but i'm not actually sorry for any of it. if you aren't okay with that, you don't have to use my designs.

MORALITY:
look, i know this is going to come up at some point, but i genuinely could not care less what you make with these designs. if you do things people don't like, people have the right not to like you, but i won't be taking legal action to appease people's morals - y'know, the things that are infamous for varying from person to person.
with that being said, please do not @ my account in suggestive or pornographic content containing these designs. i trust that you can find a myriad of other ways to credit me.

MANIFESTO
i don't think i can say anything that this song doesn't already

a great idea is only worth as much as your execution of it. an idea on its own is worth jack shit. people have to start seeing through this, jesus christ - your ideas are not worth millions just by virtue of existing.the profession of art is mostly networking. you'll never get anywhere just by the skill of your art alone, as sad as that is to say. the idea that hard work breeds success is a lie. art is worth what it is to you. own it.no idea is original. restricting who can and can't be inspired by you is fucking ridiculous. by sharing your art in a public sphere, you will get people who are inspired by you, and there is nothing you can do about it.and, above all: have fun. art is language, art is culture, and language & culture are the way we see the world.

FAQ
frequently asked questions lol

"can i do something like this?"
yes. you don't need my permission to do something similar to me - the whole point of this project is to further the free spread of ideas, haha.
here is a nice link to help you choose the license you want to use. have fun and godspeed.

"can i submit a character to your account?"
i don't like submissions because it looks like i posted them. just make your own post and @ me in it if you want me to reblog it. if you're not old enough to have a tumblr account, wait until you're old enough to have a tumblr account.

"can i make something f2u with your designs?"
YES! you can sublicense adaptations under a creative commons license if you also want it to be free to use. more information can be found in the "specifics" section.

"am i able to barter for / buy one of these designs for my exclusive use?"
no. this is, in fact, impossible due to the terms of the creative commons license. and even if it wasn't, i'm gonna be frank - this is an insulting question.
